Calculated minimum satisfaction levels in American film

If in American film an action scene lasts longer than ten minutes or so, the movie's over — no matter how near the end.

Maybe that's because they ran out of ideas early and couldn't figure out how to spread the good parts throughout, or maybe it's because they calculated that people would be satisfied with a bit of entertainment and then the film would only have to achieve the duration that people expect....

But it's clear after a certain rather short period of "boom-screech-[two-word-sentences]-kapow" that the show is over.

The story will return at the end, for obligatory conclusion — shrewdly calculated for minimum satisfaction.
