Keeping a confidence


It's good to be able to keep a confidence, but you can also let people surmise what you would have told them if you'd broken a promise with words. It's good to be able to keep a confidence, in strict literal terms, but it's possible at the same time to act in such a way that people can surmise what you know and make an assumption that is parallel to the knowledge which you might have given them if you'd broken the trust with words.
