There's one benefit for me of the Dutch people's English-language proficiency: they can read my pages.
When I was in the Netherlands, the peoples' ability to speak English was detrimental to my efforts to learn their language. This is a natural condition of speaking with a person who is bilingual in the lingua franca, but it is more pronounced in The Netherlands, where the English language is a general competency
Data such as "85 percent" compare to my own experience — that every native Dutch person speaks English.
This is not to say that it's always great English — but they all speak it, statistically speaking.
