There's one benefit for me of the Dutch people's English-language proficiency: they can read my pages.
When I was in the Netherlands, the peoples' ability to speak English was detrimental to my efforts to learn their language. This is a natural condition of speaking with a person who is bilingual in the lingua franca, but it is more pronounced in The Netherlands, where the English language is a general competency
Data such as "85 percent" compare to my own experience that every native Dutch person speaks English.
This is not to say that it's always great English but they all speak it, statistically speaking.
