Mosquitoes, new to Ireland

Down in Waterford at the end of August 2007, a mosquito bit me while I was sitting on the grass at People's Park.

A mosquito? Had a mosquito never bitten me here in Ireland? I had to wonder — I knew only that the sensation was one to which I'd not been accustomed for a long time.

A few people were over at my apartment in Kilkenny in early September when I went up to my bedroom for some purpose, and while there I spied several mosquitoes.

Back downstairs, I mentioned it. A Romanian friend said yes, mosquitoes are new in Ireland.

An Irish friend wondered what a mosquito looks like.
