It was not a mistake. It was deliberate.

The American-led invasion of Iraq in 2003 was not a mistake. It was a crime.

People naturally want to "move on." But so do people who have personally murdered, raped, and otherwise likewise abused individuals in civil society.

In cases of personal individual crimes of atrocity, families and acquaintances of the victims — and the victims themselves, if having survived atrocious crimes — can often only find any peace in the feeling of justice when those who committed the crime are served with a penalty.

The American right wing talks about "victims' rights."

But we have no time for irony. Irony is passé, these days. Sarcasm is obsolete, overpowered by this blatant hypocrisy, these religious criminals.

And somebody needs to pay for what they did in Iraq.
