Screenprinting

Screen prep, screenprinting shop

- Clean, degrease

- Coat with emulsion. Industry standard best practice is to use a scoop coater. I use a bondo applicator. It's a 6-inch wide tough plastic card with a dull but straight edge. I apply it in a window-cleaning stroke, going between front and back until the coverage is even; finishing on the side that's within the well of the frame.

- Put it that side down in horizontal position in the dark.

- Expose to known quantity of UV light. The correct exposure time will be based upon the specific parameters in your shop. So you learn it by trying. A step-test is the classic method, capturing several exposure times and work from there.
~25% more for yellow screens than for white.
