"Misogyny" — a vicious and dishonest word

People use the word "misogyny" like it means something.

What's a guy who beats on a woman? A boyfriend, right? And what's a guy who questions whether a woman who stays with a guy who beats her is a victim? A misogynist.

Misogyny, the word, always seems to be used in one of three ways:
  1) To hurt somebody;
  2) To classify an idea, contain it, and neutralize it;
  3) To censor somebody with the strong-arm tactic of threat (including the threat that a group will arise in condemnation.)
