The Netherlands

Bij de Winkel van Sinkel, Utrecht NL

When I flew to the Netherlands from Ireland in late 2007 to meet a friend of mine from America, she knew about a place called "Winkel van Sinkel," there in Utrecht, and we went for a cup of coffee.

I took this photo while we were there.

Winkel van Sinkel is een "gezellig grandcafe in klassieke stijl," according to their website — and clearly an important local institution. ("Gezellig" means something like cozy/convivial.)

I'm happy that we were there when two men were carrying a massive piece of thin plywood across the perimeter of the dining area.
