"You're the first one to complain about that"

A standard template in Irish customer relations

I wanted to make a complaint about the generally shameful treatment of customers by the Irish "mobile-broadband" providers.

When somebody says to me "you're the first one to give out about that," I don't know whether it's because that person is lying to me or because other people really don't have the nerve to say anything.

Irish people seem to have difficulty making a formal complaint about small matters such as consumer goods that are not adequate, or features of a rented property that need attention.
