"Roepnaam" — a good Dutch word

There is no equivalent of "roepnaam" in English.

It doesn't mean "nickname." It means more like "the name that people call you."

For example: My name is Steven — on my birth certificate, in my passport; and amongst the Irish (who spell my name "Stephen.")

But normally people call me "Steve." This is my roepnaam.

The moniker "Yank" is a nickname. Een bijnaam.
