There is a tiny but non-zero theoretical possibility that human science will destroy Earth.
The "end of the world" has always been a myth. Our ability to damage the ecosystem badly enough to exterminate ourselves is obvious — but that would not be the end of the world.
Now there is another possibility.
The Large-Hadron Collider at CERN on the Franco-Swiss border might be able to create phenomena that will obliterate the planet.
It's not going to happen; but it's theoretically possible.
