The Netherlands

Netherlands twice

I've lived in The Netherlands twice,* for a total of about two years.

I was in Amsterdam for the last half of 2000, in Osdorp (a west metropolitan district) after spending a few weeks on a houseboat.

When I left Amsterdam, I went to Seville for about a half-year, and from there to Dublin for the summer of 2001. I passed through Galway on the way to Kilkenny, where I got a job and met friends.

In the summer of 2003, I was cracking up to get out of town and went on a wandering bus vacation into the west. There, I met a Dutch girl, and I was soon back in The Netherlands — Nijmegen. I lived there from August of 2003 to January 2005.

* My stay in Nijmegen was punctuated for about a month in March and April of 2004 when I returned to
Kilkenny Ireland with a rather vague plan to improve my situation and maybe help (or at least not burden) my Dutch friend Kim. At that time I was oddly quasi-legal in Ireland and not legal at all in NL.

Kim said she needed me and I returned to be with her.

Thus, it may be more accurate to say that I lived in The Netherlands three times — or twice [with an asterisk.]
